Description
Gymnocalycium berchtii VS161 origin is Chanares, San Luis, Argentina. It is a small, solitary to slowly clustering cactus with a flattened to short-globular stem. The epidermis is distinctly waxy-like, typically grey-green to bluish-green in color. The stem is divided into distinct, low ribs with rounded tubercles. Areoles are small, bearing short, slightly curved spines that range from whitish to pale brown, often lying close to the body.
The plant produces attractive funnel-shaped flowers near the crown, usually pale pink to soft lavender, sometimes with a darker midstripe. Flowers appear in spring to early summer. This species prefers mineral, well-drained soil and moderate watering during the growing season, with a dry rest in winter.
