Description
Neoporteria (Eriosyce) senilis var. multicolor is a small to medium-sized cactus with a globose to short-cylindrical stem, usually solitary. The stem is dark green to bluish-green and densely covered with numerous fine, hair-like spines that give the plant a white-silvery to golden appearance. Ribs are well defined, divided into rounded tubercles. Areoles are close-set, producing dense radial spination that often partially obscures the epidermis. Very estetic plants!
The nice flowers are borne near the crown, funnel-shaped, and distinctly multicolored, typically showing shades of pink, purple, orange, or yellow with contrasting throats. Flowering occurs in spring to early summer. This taxon is native to coastal Chile and is adapted to arid conditions, preferring a very well-drained, mineral substrate, careful watering during the growing season, and a dry winter rest. Well suited for pot cultivation and advanced cactus collections.
