Description
Setiechinopsis mirabilis WR 131, Argentina : La Rioja (Patquia) is a small, solitary cactus, typically growing in dry shrublands and open plains. It has a slender, cylindrical stem up to about 12–15 cm tall and 2–2.5 cm wide, with around 10–12 slightly wavy ribs bearing fine radial spines and a single central spine. The stem is usually yellow-green to brownish-green. Its most striking feature is the flower: a long, narrow, white, strongly fragrant bloom that can exceed the length of the stem, opening at night in summer and lasting only a few hours. The species is self-fertile and produces narrow, dry fruits containing numerous small seeds.
