Description
Gymnocalycium denudatum is a medium-sized, globose to short-cylindrical cactus, often solitary but sometimes forming small clusters with age. The stem is glossy dark green to bluish-green, typically with 5–8 broad, rounded ribs separated by deep furrows. Areoles are well spaced and bear few short, stout spines, usually grey to brownish, often slightly curved and spreading.
The species is notable for its large, showy flowers, produced near the apex. Flowers are white to pale pink, sometimes with a faint greenish or pink midstripe on the outer tepals. Flowering occurs from late spring through summer. Native to Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, this species prefers a well-drained, mineral-rich substrate, moderate watering during the growing season, and a cool, dry winter rest. It is an easy and rewarding species for cultivation and well suited for beginners and collectors alike.
